Snacks On The Go

Heading outdoors for a climb this weekend? Be out there for a few hours? You’ll probably need a snack or two to keep you going. Perhaps some cardamom orange bliss balls? These little spheres of goodness are packed with a mixture of carbohydrates (from the dates and oats) and protein and healthy fats (from the nuts) which will help to refuel your body for more climbing while keeping you fuller for longer. As an added bonus, they’re easy to make and taste delicious!

 

Cardamom Bliss Balls (Makes 10-12)

10 Medjool dates, pitted and chopped

¾ cup nuts of your choice (I used cashews)

1 cup rolled oats

Juice and zest of ½ large orange

1/8 tsp ground cardamom

Method

  1. Combine all ingredients in a food processor and whizz until combined. The mixture should stick together when pressed with the back of a spoon. Add more oats if too wet or more orange juice if too dry.
  2. Take a tablespoon of the mixture and roll into a ball. Repeat with the remaining mixture. Enjoy straight away or pop in the refrigerator to firm up.

 

Tip: Make a double batch and freeze the leftovers for next time.
