La Sportiva Futura Review

I am going to start this by saying yes I am a huge fan of the Futuras and they have been my longest standing shoe, when I first got the La Sportiva Solutions I thought they would be my go to shoe but when I came across these they went out the window.

After first putting on a pair of Futuras I was surprised I don’t see them on more feet more often after climbing in Solutions putting my foot into a Futura felt like it was made to fit.  I know that every foot is different but I found that being a perfect fit for my foot I could go that step tighter and still be comfortable but get that added sensitivity.  On top of the great fit I found the no edge technology gave them even better sensitivity under foot and better friction on most types of footers weather they are getting smeared on a sloper, heeling a hold or cramming them in your nearest crack they performed well. However the one thing I did find was as a negative contrast to the more traditional edge of something like a Nexxo or Solution is as you may assume, edging.  Especially on steep terrain there is something lost when you are trying to catch that far off flake after you cut or trying to get some purchase on a razor thin ledge that is lost.  This being said the La Sportiva Futuras are still my go to shoe, as an all rounder performance shoe and for comfort I am yet to try a better shoe

Total Rating: 9.5/10

Break Down
Sensitivity:  A fantastic shoe on the sensitivity front they with the no edge technology and the comfort of the shoe you can get your foot closer to the rock or the plastic depending on where you are
9.5/10

Edging:  Still performs well but if you are looking for a specific shoe for edging there may be a better choice

8/10

Heel Hook:  I was surprised to find the support on the soft heel,  I had found that some shoes with soft heels pretty uncomfortable when it comes to hard heeling but the Futura seems to give enough protection and great friction for all your pulling needs
9/10

Toe Hook:  Although toe hooks aren’t my go to move the Futuras make them feel solid the consistant rubber from sole to toe seems to give a good amount friction

9/10

Pockets and Cracks: Because of the tight fit you can really jam you foot in whatever hole or crack you can get it to and it will get in there deep... well aslong as you ask first. Because of the wrapped rubber around the toe it seems to have fantastic frictin all round
9/10

Smearing:  Good again the know edge technology gives a greater area of friction and although it is a small diffrence it is an important diffrence
9/10

Comfort: Well 9.5 may seem high but comparing apples with appels (or performance climbing shoes with performance climbing shoes anyway) they are fantastic probably the best I have found. I know that every foot is diffrent but from my point of veiw they are excelent
9.5/10

Value:  Price point may be an issue for some but it is worth the money if you are happy to spend it. Although they are not the cheepest performance shoe on the market they are definetly up there as one of the best and the longevity of the shoe is good to.  They have lasted me longer than any other pair of shoes I have had before I had to get myself a new pair
8/10

All in all the La Sportiva Futuras are a fantastic allround shoe you might find some other shoes better for specifics but for allround comfort and performance the Futuras are still my go to
